Most older views of Oak Street started at First or Second Streets. We’re lucky to have this period postcard which shows the less glamorous end of the block. Note the Cuddeford Blacksmith shop. We saw Mr Cuddeford and the inside of this shop in this view.

When I first opened this, I thought, "no way is this a photo of beautiful, pristine Hood River."
But the Washington hills in the background look familiar.
I am guessing the third building on the right is one of the first structures in downtown HR and featured in photo #190 and later replaced by the Yasui building?
There is a car in the middle that I can’t tell if it is coming or going. Maybe it is the parking ticket lady.

When the Schlossers sold the Cuddeford building in the 80"s? it looked much the same. the cars and trucks all look like 20’s era vehicles I would guess the one coming and going" in the middle is a pickup style vehicle with a canvas canopy. The Yasui store must have been short lived as the corner had a Texaco station there by the early fifties if not earlier.

Jim — the Yasui Brothers store existed on that corner from 1913 until around 1930, after which it was demolished to make way for the building of the new (1931)Yasui building a bit farther east, where it still stands today. The lower portion of that building is the Grounds Coffee Shop now.
The site of the old wooden Yasui store became a Texaco service station, the first proprietor of whom I can remember, was Paul R. Reed.
