The caption to this image is “Oak Grove Band 1930s/ Mr. Savo Director”. That’s almost identical to the caption for this 1924 image, but you can see an obvious difference. In the 1930’s image all the children appear to be of Japanese ancestry, while none of the children in the 1924 image appear to be.
Mr. Savo’s hairline seems to confirm the relative dates of these images, but the difference in the makeup of these two bands is a mystery. The pages of The Hood River Glacier tell us Charles and Gustava Savo purchased 13 acres in Oak Grove in 1920, and by 1925 he organized a boys’ band, but it’s unclear if these bands were segregated or if there is another explanation for these images.
Someone has added the annotation “Harry O” with an arrow to the front of this image.
