Historic Hood River
Not So Manicured
8-25-2023

Notes
The caption on this image is “Columbia Gorge Hotel 1936-1946.” We’re used to seeing this stately hotel surrounded by manicured grounds, but there were several periods when that was not the case. This is a view of the gate off the Columbia River Highway, many years before the construction of I-84 past the site.
I do not know the identity of the woman in the image. The only other detail I can share is the sign posted on the tree says “No Hunting.”

The old highway looks like the bike path that it is today. No strips, signage, so primitive! Looks like Mrs. Day, is this a Alva Day photo?
