Historic Hood River
Mt. Hood Loop Highway
1-18-2022

Notes
Our friends at ODOT sent me this image after seeing our Frank Patterson stereo view last week. This is somewhere on the Mt. Hood Loop Highway, probably mid-1920s. The big trees look to be a mixture of cedar and Douglas fir to me, but it’s hard to be sure from this distance.

Spectacular…makes me wish I had lived in the era. Pardon my ignorance, but is this the precursor to what is Highway 35 today?

Agree about the cedars – that long, straight-grained, shaggy bark… and this is gorgeous. Reminds me of the shot I bought for our home, that Arthur conserved at the museum, of two men on a motorcycle sidecar setup, with dynamite, blasting the road to Lost Lake.

Also looks like a bit of hemlock in there as well.

Would be nice if the Museum had these photos both as postcards and larger for framing..
