Historic Hood River
Mt. Hood Loop Highway, 1947
4-27-2017

Notes
I think I can place this September 1947 Alva Day on the Mt. Hood Loop Highway. The small sign points left to “Neal Creek”. I think it’s near the Sunday Drive intersection, just south of Cascade Pet Camp and Cardinal Glass.

This looks like they just Hanel Mill and that road to the left would go to the mill then go down Booth Hill.

This is looking somewhat west towards Mt. Defiance( the modern photo). If you look closely at the old photo you will see in the upper right hand corner a piece of Mt. Hood. Yes, this picture is of Hwy 30, but this is taken just above what was Hanel’s Mill on the way towards Mt. Hood and Parkdale. I can’t be certain but that house might still be there.

I believe Norma is correct. Funny how familiar this looks.
Marilyn
I agree that it is at the upper mill site. Recognized it immediately.

And what was Alva Day’s fascination with this spot? The power poles?
Very peaceful looking.
Longshot
I believe the house got some major work done to it about ten years ago.

Yes that house is still there, by Hanels upper mill.
Longshot
It appears that the barn and all three of the dwellings are still there, though somewhat changed over the years.

Mr. Breeze
I believe that asphalt is still there.
Frontage road.

That is near my home and unfortunately the house was lost a few years ago.

Here is a link to an album of this farm in 2013 before the house was demolished.
