Notes
The Mt. Hood Lodge was about five miles south of Parkdale, and operated until 1926. The windmill operated to pump water up to a holding tank on the roof.
The hotel was owned by Homer Rogers, who in 1919 also bought the Cloud Cap Inn. Completion of the Columbia Gorge Highway and the Mt. Hood Loop Highway meant serious trouble for local destination resorts, as you could now see Mt. Hood on a day trip from Portland. The Mt. Hood Lodge was closed and burned in the 1930’s.

I know who might shed some light on this. Bob Nickelsen might know, as his grandfather was Christian Nickesen. His other grandparentts, the McMullan’s owned Mt. Hood Tavern and land on the Cloud Cap Road. I seem to recall that there is (might be wrong) a connection between the Nichelsen’s and Rogers of Mt. Hood Lodge.
All stands to reason that these families were into the events that were going on concerning the mountain at that time.

By the size of those hands I would venture a guess that the man holding the sign is Scandinavian.

They were German, via Denmark……from an area that was jointly owned by Germany and Denmark.

I’ve been told this might be Fred Donnerberg, the photographer and Crag Rat. Can anyone confirm that?

It might be, but the pictures of I have of Fred Donnerberg don’t look like this man. Fred Donnerberg was a thinner man. It might be a Crag Rat……Get Bill Pattison to go up to the Crag Rat Hut and look at all the pictures of the Crag Rats (on the wall) of that era. If he was a Crag Rat his pictures should be there……

I am not certain about this. Still looking for some of my pictures. I have a guess and only a guess who it might be. There is a possibility that it is Bill Cochran. He was an old Pine Grove area Crag Rat. Once I unearth the pictures I have of him I will know for certain. If not I would think that it might been one of the "Finn" Crag Rats. Ofcourse, it might not even be a Crag Rat, there were others who were not in the organization that were involved in mountain climbing.

After looking through other Crag Rat photos, my best guess is Charlott is correct, and this is Bill Cochran– wearing Fred Donnerberg’s beret!
