Picture taken at Mt. Hood Community Hall at last annual picnic- 1911. Big snow the following winter crashed in the roof on Christmas eve just after community program. Community hall on Cooper homestead. Mrs Ida Florence Everson purchased the Pope part (20 acres)of the Larwood homestead. It was never rebuilt and the lumber which had been donated was hauled away by everyone.
The photo was taken by Joe Hess, who also took this great image in the same neighborhood. There is an extensive though confusing genealogy which seems to be related to “Aunt Patty and Michael Craft who homesteaded on Bald Butte” (Michael is noted on the image).

Michael Craft was from Mercer County, Ohio. He originally came to Mosier, where he had a little farm. He married Nancy Patience Cooper and their Bald Butte Ranch was known as "Sky Ranch." They were there until 1911 when they moved down into the middle valley portion.
As to Florence Everson, Arlen fill this in as she was of the Sheldrake family………

There must be some familiar names in that group of faces. Except for the little girl that has her face covered.
And what is so special about Michael Craft?
Have we seen those gihugical hats before in another photo?

l.e. where did you ever come up with gihugical?? Would have bet it was just a word you made up until I found it in the dictionary.
Arlen Sheldrake
Ida Florence Everson, 1862-1938, buried at Idlewild Cementary. Mother of Ella Everson Sheldrake (May Pole, 1913 photo), my and Roger’s grandmother….so Ida is our great grandmother. Had to do some digging as older brother John W. was our family tree expert and has gone to end of track. It would be interesting to know where the "Pope part of the Larwood homestead" is located as father John L. was born at home near the community of Mt. Hood. It is interesting that one of father John’s brother’s middle name is Larwood, Leonard Larwood Sheldrake, Knew that name was somewhat familiar…..

I checked out the hats in photo #251. Doesn’t look like there are any duplicates, but the lady in the white dress with the gihugical black hat, might also be in photo #251.
