This image is part of a group donated to the museum in 1961 by Hazel Nelson Briscoe (or Briscol). Combining the notes we learn Anna Bond Nelson was the first wife of Ole Nelson. She died of cancer and diabetes about 1919. Ole Nelson is described as “a son in law” and a mail carrier on Rt. 1, with a home at 15 Montello. Another reference is made to Mrs. W. G. Bond, “4 1/4 miles south of Hood River on Road to Dee.” There is an address for Anna Nelson at 207 Eugene Street (which would be just west of the Second Street Stairs). There is also reference to Mrs. G Haskins of Odell and Grace Upton, and finally the comment “Good Frame Sale” which makes me wonder if this image was acquired at a picture frame sale.
If any of this sounds familiar, you may be recalling this image of Ole Nelson delivering mail to Arline Moore’s house in 1914.
Jeffrey Bryant
I believe this is the family of Sarah Jane Little Bond (3 Apr 1843 – 17 Aug 1922) who was the widow of William George Palmer Bond (4 Feb 1842 – 24 Feb 1907. They are buried in Idlewilde cemetery. Their children were Annie Sarah Bond Nelson (26 Jun 1863 – 9 Dec 1918), William Bond, Edward Bond, Fred Bond, Florence Jane Bond Haskins (18 Mar 1872 – 1 Feb 1953), and Thomas Henry Bond.
