Historic Hood River
Meredith Motel
6-20-2023

Notes
This postcard shows the not-too-long-gone Meredith Motel, which was on the north side of I-84 just as you crest the hill entering Hood River from the west. You can see the also-gone Broughton Mill on the north shore of the Columbia, and I believe those pilings are remnants of the Jaymar Mill operations.

Traveling home to Glenwood late at night on Hwy 14, the sign was always a welcome and friendly sight.
I don’t know if the one in the photo was red lights at night, but that is what I remember.

On the Oregon side you could see it from down by Wyeth for a brief flash.

I remember a warm friendly sign also, about half way to my childhood home from Portland.
Mrs. Moreau got a field trip to se both upper and lower mill.
We watched the lassie movie in class.
Up on the platform watching the wood coming in from the upper mill I will never forget!
Christie
I remember many trips, returning from Portland games on “rooter busses,” and all the kids chanting to the flashing lights of the motel sign as we could first see it. First each individual letter lit up, then the word motel – “M…O…T…E…L….Motel!”
