Meet the Moody’s?

We’ve seen plenty of Anne Lang images in the past 13 years but I haven’t done a great job of pinning down the names and faces. Here’s my current best (L-R): Malcolm Moody, ?, Bess Lang, Zenas Moody.
Malcolm Moody was a long time friend of the Langs. He willed them his house when he passed. He also built a house for them at 115 West 4th Street in the Dalles. That story is told in this article. He represented Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District for two terms.
Zenas Moody was Malcolm’s father. He was the seventh governor of Oregon. There don’t seem to be many photographs of him around,. His official portrait was lost when the Oregon Capitol building burned, so if my ID is correct these Anne Lang images of him fill in some important history.
Bess Lang was Anne Lang’s sister and long time companion.
If you look at the other Anne Lang images you should be able to pick out Bess Lang and the Moody’s, who are frequent subjects of her camera.

Findagrave Memorial 6254235 includes an image of Zenas Moody, Governor of Oregon. I don’t know if it is his official portrait, but it appears to be a different man than the one in the above photo. Malcolm Moody had a brother Zenas Moody. I suspect this picture is of the younger Zenas.

To my eye this man looks like the Zenas Ferry Moody on Wikipedia without a beard, but my eye is not very reliable. I’ll see if there are any newspaper articles to help us out, as they went to Cloud Cap together several times.

I like this one from the Dalles Chronicle, August 5 1892: “Hon. M. A. Moody returned from Cloud Cap Inn last evening, with his coaching party. They made the drive
from Cloud Cap to The Dalles leisurely, in less than eleven hours, camping and resting by the way. All report one of the finest outings in the history of past
seasons.” The same issue mentions Governor Moody returning with a group of railroad men from Kansas City.

Oregonian September 7 1902: “Hon. M. A. Moody, Miss Lang and Miss Elizabeth Lang, accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. A. M. Balfour and Mr. Thomas Magan, of Lyle, returned Sunday from a trip to Cloud Cap Inn. Mr. Moody and the Misses Lang left on Tuesday for a 10 days’ stay at Lake Cushman; Wash. They were joined In Portland by Mrs. C. J. Reed.”

Dalles Chronicle July 17 1894: “Governor Moody and daughter, Edna arrived from Salem last night, and will
join the party going to Cloud Cap in a few days.”

Albert Thompson of early White Salmon history, tells about taking some cows into the Glenwood Valley, (Camas Prairie) for summer grazing. 1868-1870.
He mentions that one summer, they had a young boy stay with them as hired help. He was the son of an Oregon governor.
I assume it was Malcolm. He would have been the right age, about 15.
Luci Moody
The man on the far left is definitely Malcolm Moody. As for the man on the far right, I’m not completely certain, but based on the age of Malcolm, I think it might be Zenas Arizona Moody, his brother.
