Historic Hood River
“Me. Viola”
4-1-2025

Notes
The beginning of April is a good time to think about summer vacations. In 1928 Alta Walter May and her friend Viola traveled to Newport Oregon for some time in the ocean waters and sea breezes. It must have been a common vacation destination for Hood Riverites– we also have this view and this view of Newport in the same era. While many traveled to Newport by rail, I suspect Alta and Viola traveled by automobile. We know Alta had a 1926 or 1927 Model T Roadster which she drove to Yellowstone the following year.
You can read more about the history of Newport Oregon here. The hotel in the background has sign “….n View”. Perhaps “Ocean View”?

These were two very adventurousness women early on with automobile trips.

Did anyone ever come up with a last name for the elusive Viola?
