I was recently invited to look through the archives of the Farmers Irrigation District to see what treasures they might have. There were some great maps and documents and photographs telling the history of irrigation in the western portion of the Hood River Valley. This 1923 map shows the canals which made up the system at that time. I’m told this system got its start with the first diversion of water from a creek in 1874. On this map you can see the diversions and canals for the High Line, Low Line, and Green Point ditches.
An aside on maps like this: blueprints can last a long time, but they fade quickly when exposed to UV light. Blueprints like this (and cyanotype images)should be stored in light blocking enclosures. This one was in a folder within a sealed cardboard box, so it has lasted 100 years with little sign of degradation. If this were exposed to light for the past century we’d probably be looking at a blank sheet of paper.

This is great. I wonder when Big Bear Lake was changed to Warren Lake? Current maps show a Bear Lake west of this that drains into Lindsey Creek as well.

I think Bear Lake is correct but Warren Lake isn’t on the map

Warren Lake feeds into Warren Creek (like Big Bear does on this map). Bear Lake feeds into Lindsey Creek.

I agree with JKG- that’s where Warren Lk is-
Bear Lk -as we know it now- is west of Mt Defiance, NE of North Lk.
