Apparently Mal Button was sent out into the cold because he made too much noise with his trombone. The location, of course, is the Dewitt Motor Company building on Cascade Avenue. It’s fitting that this is now the Columbia Center For the Arts.

Mal was Malcolm Pomeroy Button 1895-1969. He was the son of Frank Howard and Ethel (Pomeroy) Button. He was of the Button family of Button Hill, over there where Tum-a-lum is now by the bridge over the H.R.

As I was growning up in Hood River my parents owned a house on east Hazel and it was called the Button house. I do belive the house was built around 1905 and is still there.

Dan, is that the house at the very east end of Hazel, on the bluff overlooking the Hood River?

The address is 419 Front St. If you take Hazel off Surpentine and go to where the road forks the house is below the road on the left.
