Notes

This is a fun image from the Olga Plog album/ scrapbook. You can see it was taken at Lost Lake in July of 1925. About a decade earlier there was a surge in popularity of “Hawaiian music”. Recordings of ukulele music and guitars played in the “Polynesian style” were big sellers, so it’s not at all surprising she brought her uke along on a camping trip.

You can see a nice canvas tent in the background.

Do you think she is wearing a swim cap or is that aviator style headgear? Before you discount the aviator theory, the previous page of the scrapbook includes a certificate that on October 19, 1924 she made an airplane flight with the “Quinn Rankin Fliers.”

Interesting that it was OK to show this much leg for swimming, but not for playing basketball, as in the yesterday's photo.

Girls must have been able to earn athletic letters?

Love it. She looks incredibly casual, modern. Also, they still teach ukelele to elementary kids here.

About forty ukuleles play at the Milwaukie
    Center each Thursday, nice performance.

Would that be an Odell letter sweater she's wearing?
