This real photo postcard shows the Oregon Lumber Company log flume along the Little White Salmon river in Skamania County Washington. The photographer sent it from Hood River to the Dalles in the winter of 1910. She also commented she was enjoying sleighing, and the temperature wasn’t too cold.

Does anyone know if there is still any evidence of these old flumes from this era? Or has mother nature pretty much returned them from whence they came.

Buzz, we definitely know that parts of the flume that ended at Broughton mill, still exist. It was built between 1921 and 1923.
The first part of the flume was built in 1913. It ended at Drano.
If this flume in the photo was around in 1910, I bet there are boards lying around somewhere. I wonder if Scott Cook knows?
When I was looking for information about yesterday’s photo, I was reading that Charles Bell, owner of the Mt Hood Hotel, first came to this area in 1890 with the Oregon Lumber company. He was foreman of logging camps both around Mt Hood and Skamania County.

This appears to be where the fish hatchery now exists near the mouth of the river, same terrain and river banks. Easy to drive in and compare.
