When citizens of Hood River County reached the “Million Dollar Club” level in their war bond drive it earned them a visit by KOIN radio for a live broadcast. Hood Riverites will of course recognize the location as the Hood River High School (now Middle School) auditorium. You can be sure families across the state were huddled around their radios to hear the performance.

That auditorium is really, really outstanding. I wonder how it was determined back in the design / funding days to include such a wonderful feature in the "new" high school. Sorry I missed the HRHS all class reunion this past weekend that utilized the auditorium for their main event.

Any idea what the flags represent? The U.S. and the State of Oregon of course, and then what else?

I think they may be the flags of the allied nations– I see Britain, Russia, Australia, France, and I think Greece. Another popular thing at that time was to fly the flags of occupied nations as a sign of solidarity, though I don’t see them here.

I think Turkey is there but I don’t see a state of Oregon. I would guess that the five flags directly behind the podium are the main allies with US in the center. I count a total of 15 flags on the stage, a better ww II history buff would know if that matches the number of countries united in the effort.
Wonder what the "T" stands for on the banner?

I really like the ambiance provided by the live music so common of era radio programming. Note the headphoned engineer controlling the various audio levels for mixing prior to broadcast.

This photo humbles me. As the music teacher at HR Jr. Hi and then HRMS – from 1981-2007, I spent many hours on this stage, creating and presenting music for friends and families of more than 3,000 students. Yes, that represents a long, long time . . but this picture represents so many preceding years of community history. The appearance has not changed much at all!

I attended my first two years of high school here (followed by the brand-new HRVHS), and I remember the proscenium arch had a quotation from Psalms 104:24 : "how manifold are thy works… the earth is full of thy riches." Dunno if that scriptural quotation survived the middle-school remodel or not.
I spent many happy hours in high school band on that stage, after the old band building across the street from the high school burned down.
