Notes

The old Lookout Station at the summit of Mt. Hood provides a nice sense of scale and perspective. This Alva Day view is from the Legion Climb of July 1927.

Do they have to go up and shovel it out every year?

    Is it still there?

It's long gone. My understanding is after WW II the USFS was looking to reduce staff and costs so they removed many lookouts like this.

I can't imagine having to disassemble the lookout and then haul it all back down. Would have been easier to pray for lightning, or perhaps a carelessly dropped match?

A busy day on top of ole Hood.
