Notes
Here we have six Crag Rats honoring mountaineer Doug Langille with a plaque at the Langille Crags on September 4, 1955. The men are identified as Bill Sheppard, Wilson Appelgren, Ross Hukari, Mace Baldwin, Lester Hukari, and Harold Wells. My guess is Harold Wells was out of frame shooting the image, but I’m sure Charlott can let us know.

Yes I am quite sure that my Dad took this photo.
Knew these men all quite well. Bill Sheppard is the only one remaining with us.
Does anyone know if this rock with the plaque is still there. Reason I ask is sometimes avalanches and rock falls doe obliterate things.
Certainly a good photo of Cooper Spur and what they call the Head Wall.

Langille led quite a life, coming here and running the new Cloud Cap Inn, escorting a group that contained Pinchot around the mountain and encouraging ‘range’ (forest preserves), prospecting in Alaska, logging in South America, encouraging lands throughout Oregon to be state parks…
Retired at 81. He serves a plaque, if not more. Wonder if it is still there.

Charlott, (or anyone else), from someone who is totally ignorant about the areas of Mt Hood, what are you looking at in this photo that you call "Cooper Spur"?

Just last Sunday a group of Rats had an outing to the area to honor the memory of Dick Pooley, a long-time Rat and founding member of the national Mountain Rescue Association. Dick’s ashes might have made the trip but human remains are frowned on by the USFS in wilderness areas, so I might be mistaken.

Thanks spinsur. I can’t really say that Cooper Spur, "talked to me", but the Langille Crags sure did. Amazing view of the shadow of the crags.

Something else I find amazing is all the labeled names on the mountain which are familiar because of the namesakes photos here at HHR.
