Kresse Drug Store
It’s hard to believe I haven’t posted this yet, as this was the first negative we scanned when this project started a year and a half ago. It’s still one of my favorites. We believe it is the Kresse Drug Store, though it is possible it is mislabeled.
Our drug stores have all been replaced with coffee shops, but anyone who ever sat at a soda fountain as a kid will instantly recollect the marble counters, the shiny handled dispensers, the metal cups for ice cream. The mirror to the far right suggests: “Eat a Plate of Ice Cream Every Day!” Words to live by.
The rear of the store housed Victrolas and records. The menu on the table advertises Kodak film. Display cases hold fountain pens. Is there anything in this image that isn’t a museum item?
