Historic Hood River
Koberg Beach Pavilion

Notes
I’ve never seen this side of the Koberg Beach pavilion. This closeup gives us an appreciation of the woodwork and stonework of the structure.
The blurry figures in the foreground are Arvilla and Elaine Woolston.

It was beautiful. Was it dismantled when the dams came in?
Melody Shellman
It was dismantled later, about the time the interstate was put in.
The photo was taken about 1934. Elaine is on the left.

The trees look much closer.

what year was the Pavillion constructed?

Great question Cathleen. In 1915 John Koberg said he was improving the beach with changing roooms and other amenities for family and friends but didn't want a public beach. By 1922 they were advertising a public beach– that's when the highway to Mosier allowed easy access. The pavilion was built sometime thereafter, in several phases which you can see in HHR photos. Unfortunately i don't have accurate years, but we know it looked like this in 1934.
