Here’s a detail from yesterday’s image of Koberg Beach in 1936. It seems like there are so many ways this could go wrong, but that was probably half the fun. How else would you learn not to dive into knee-deep water?
Of course creative marine engineering was not limited to the 1930’s. How many of you looked at this and thought of the Slider Project down at the kite spit? It certainly got quite a bit of use at the kiteboard competition last weekend.

Can you imagine catching a school bus on Oak Street and taking a nickel for a Babe Ruth bar to Koberg’s for your swimming lessons. The river temperature was around 50 degrees rain or shine. Today we call it "child abuse". We did learn to swim, had a lot of fun, and have wonderful memories.

Okay Bill, do you know why it only shows boys? I thought the Victorian age was well past.

The swim school was quite often devided. My sister would go to Koberg’s at a different time than I did. Almost forgot about that.
