Historic Hood River
Kelly Brothers/ Big 7 Fire redux
6-23-2022

Notes
This is another Howard Jones view of the July 29, 1939 fire at the Kelly Brothers/ Big 7 Buildings in Hood River’s industrial quarter. There sure are a lot of people standing around watching. I wonder why we find structure fires so captivating? Is it the primitive nature of fire itself, or the fact that our built environment rarely changes so abruptly?

Some are evidently firemen with a pretty weak stream.
When the Hood burns, it burns big – in these warehouses and packing houses.
