While the caption on this image appears to say “Dillmer” the records I have seen show Josephine Winchell, sister of Arline Winchell’s father Virgil, was married to William Ditmar. That means Josephine was Arline’s aunt and all these restless kids were her first cousins. It sure looks like everyone, including William is having trouble keeping awake as the photographer worked to capture this studio image for a cabinet card.
The reference to “Wash. Ter.” dates this prior to 1889 statehood. Josephine was born in Hood River in 1863.
