Historic Hood River
Jaymar Revisited

Notes
This view of workers loading a barge at the site of the Jaymar mill looks like it was take the same day as this view. I thought that view was from the 1940s, but this angle clearly shows the bridge before the start of the lift span project in 1937.

another great picture!!!! very labor intensive. Arlen

Clearly taken the same day but perhaps hours apart, judging by the new stack of lumber on top, change of shadows, relocation of the ramp, and the addition of planks on the right side, possibly to walk up to the deck at personal risk. Many other details unchanged.

This photo taken earlier in the day than the reference photo.

Doubt it, unless somebody moved the logs in the water around the barge. They’re in different locations

Is that the eastern tip of Wells Island on the left?

Cecilia– the mound in the mid field is the island you now see at the eastern edge of the Hook. Some of the wood pilings you see here are still visible at the end of the hook. That may be the eastern tip of Wells Island, I’m not sure how extensive the shoaling was in this era.
