Thomas and
Della Coon
1854-1937 and 1854-1936
The Coons were early pioneer residents of Hood River. Thomas and Della were teachers and taught in several pioneer country schools in rural Oregon and Washington.
Della had a strong interest in the life stories of Hood River’s pioneers. She collected their life stories, and later those stories were compiled into a book titled, History of Hood River Pioneers.
Thomas was an active civic leader in Hood River and a farmer. He was known for developing the Clark Seedling Strawberry which became one of the first Hood River fruit crops introduced to the rest of the country.
