Historic Hood River
Injured Scarecrow
1-12-2023

Notes

This scarecrow seems to have an arm in a sling. I believe the location is at Alta Walter’s family farm in Sherman County.
I don’t see many scarecrows anymore. Is it because birds have gotten smarter? I was up in a cherry tree tying mylar streamers to scare off the birds when bird landed on the next branch. If he wasn’t afraid of me, I don’t think a scarecrow would have helped.
Are scarecrows now a forgotten form of folk art?

Why, if our scarecrow back in Kansas could do that, the crows’d be scared to pieces!

Oops, looks like I mixed up today’s and tomorrow’s posts. I set two posts for the exact same time accidentally. You’ll see the Mosier hotel tomorrow.
The comment time stamp was a separate issue– when I was updating all the copyright dates to 2023 I accidentally switched us to daylight savings time. I’ve corrected the site clock, which is how this response is posted before you asked the question!

Go back to yesterday’s photo and back to this photo and let me know if it’ still there. Mine is replaced with one of Mosier Hotel.

Yes, you are right M.A. But also, my clock says 8:36 and your clock says you posted this at 8:51

I don’t think scare crows really work, but they are cheerful to see when driving by a garden.
