Historic Hood River
Industrial View
6-17-2024

Notes
Alva Day captured this image exactly 92 years ago, on June 17, 1932. I’m not positive I have the exact location, but it’s hard to imagine it any place other than along Industrial Avenue at the far west end of the Union Building. Alternately this could be the west end of the Big 7 Building. It doesn’t look like this today, but the building burned and was rebuilt in the intervening 92 years. What’s your vote?
The waterfront is quite different. The Columbia River slough forms a bit of a lake in this view. There is even a car and a houseboat in view if you look carefully along the shore of the “lake”.

If we are looking north-east then the street appears to run north and south with a bend to the west at the north end, just like 7th street does today at Columbia.

I think I have been to that site,
