I suspect there are a few more restrictions on in-water work today. But this Alva Day image was taken in September, 1949 along the lower reaches of the Hood River, next to the Powerdale pipeline.

Standing on the big pipe. Used to be a favorite place to walk, and they eventually added a wire platform and handrail to facilitate that. Miss that walk.

Finally figured out that thing in the water. It’s a dozer! Accidental or on purpose?

Wife and I hiked the pipeline just a month ago (December 2019), and came across an employee of the department that manages that area surveying some damage to the walkway. The very first segment of metal walkway that gets you up onto the pipeline bridge over the river was apparently pulled down off it and damaged badly. She expressed some concerns about that walkway staying open in the future. Seems that whole stretch is a complicated bit of a grey area, responsibility / liability wise.

This appears to be the section of river about 150 feet downriver from the pipe cross, with the bulldozer resting just upriver from the area where there’s currently a sandy beach.

Looks like somebody standing near the flume, at the back of the photo. Maybe he is looking for his dozer.
