It looks like the high school camera club is printing some of the photographs they have taken. The wooden boxes are for exposing contact prints. A negative and a sheet of photographic paper are placed on the glass platform, with a light bulb inside providing the timed exposure for the print. You can also see the small trays which hold the chemical solutions to develop the print.
Based on the Bunsen burners and periodic table of the elements, it looks like they are working in the chemistry classroom.
It’s hard to read the handwriting, but I think the students are identified as: Norma H…sche, Harold Wilson, M… Rej…, and Paul Pepper or Peffer. The date is “Spring 1948”.

This is just a little before my time at HRHS but if Mary Hawkes was teaching then this would definitely be the chemistry room. In the 50’s she taught chemistry (excellent teacher!) and I think was photography club adviser or maybe had a photography class.

The Periodic Table appears to be missing some of the elements.

Yes Jeffrey, not much in the way of transuranic elements. I can’t even see Uranium, but I presume it is is in the seventh row which is blocked. I can’t see beyond 86, Radon.
