Arlen sent along this picture of his Explorer Scout Post led by Harvey Cardwell (center). He thinks it is about 1955-56 when they visited the Portland Air Base.

This is probably one of the most tranquil moments this scout group ever had.

Dick was "possessed" with a special sense of humor/trouble. I will never forget being decked (laid out) by a block from him as I was not paying attention on the football field…."you should have seen me coming". Not sure if anyone advanced any rank in this Explorer Scout troop but Harvey gave us some great outings and experiences…..will also never forget Dennis Paddock and the Dinty Moore cans of stew he packed up the Eagle Creek Trail……GREAT memories….thanks for posting Arthur.

Good job Norma, I couldn’t remember Gary Palmer. And I might add, we all used to call Dwayne Goodwin by his nickname, "Spike".

Yes Arlen, his daughter "possesses" that same special sense of humor/trouble. Oh yes, I have heard the Dinty Moore story more than once. Also, Harvey falling on Mt. Hood.
Agree, it would have been a special leader to keep this group under any type of control.
Hopefully they learned a few life skills from the experience…..

Sorry for your early loss Charlott, but thankfully we live in a time when there are photographs to help our memories.
I recently lost my mother, who had suffered from dementia for 15 years. As we were gathering photos for her service, I realized I had forgotten what she looked like back when she smiled and laughed. It was good to see those photos and remember better times.
I thought of the many generation before the time of photography who had nothing to look at to remember those they had lost.

Norma: How was Eddie Holloway and Ron Holloway related. Were they first cousins?

If I remember they were uncle and nephew. Could be wrong.

As I remember it, Eddie was a half-brother to Ron’s father.

Charlott, I agree, Harvey was a special person…not sure how he kept us mostly out of trouble but he did.

Yes, Ron’s dad Hap was Eddie’s much older half brother. Ron and his wife Mary Ann life in Hood River; Eddie died in a car accident many years ago. H
