Historic Hood River
Hood River Depot, circa 1883

Notes
Here’s another spectacular detail from Carleton Watkins 1883 view of Hood River. That’s the OR&N Railroad depot, in the same location as our current depot. You can also see the original Mt. Hood Hotel facing the depot. The heavily forested Hood River delta comes right up to the tracks.

I don’t think I would have recognized this as HR. Even with the hills in the background.
The grade from the hotel to the depot does not appear to be as steep as it is today.
Thanks Arthur. These closeups are interesting.

Is there a picture of a bridge in Hood River that doesn’t have a man sitting on the top of the bridge?

Interesting to see the spareness and relatively small size of the conifers.
Need to stop on the way into Hood River and try a get a view of the town from the same prospective these pictures were taken.
