Notes
For some reason we don’t see nearly as many pictures of early basketball teams as we do football and baseball. This looks like Hood River’s first high school on May Street. Unfortunately we don’t have a year or team roster.

I am wondering if this might not have been taken across from the high school on May Street up against the building that housed the band, etc. The one that burnt. I feeling is that it is later than the old May Street. Could be wrong, have been many times.

Looks like these guys could hold their own in a "no blood, no foul" brand of basketball.

Charlott, wasn’t the band building you’re referring to stick frame wood rather than brick? I remember watching the fire from inside the high school on the upper floor with my father who was a biology teacher at the school.

I know we don’t know a date for this photo, but since we are dealing with basketball, this might be of interest.
In March of 1919, Hood River played in the State Tournament.
Members of the team were: Willis Pendergast, Selman Gassoway, Frank Vonder Ahe, George Samuels and Ray Slavens.

Are those socks rolled down below the knees- ?
If the were rolled up would the be considered " knee highs " or
" thigh highs " 🙂
