Historic Hood River
Home Orchard Company
10-11-2022

Notes
This W. F. Laraway image is probably from on of the semi-annual Horticultural Fairs such as this one. George R. Castner, father of John B. Castner, had an apple orchard called the Home Orchard Company in the Belmont District. The cases of apples are neatly labeled with the varieties: Delaware Red, Newtown, Baldwin, Spitzenburg, Northern Spy, Red Cheek Pippen, Salome, Yellow Newtown, Arkansas Black and Hyde’s King. This time of year you can still find most of these varieties around the Hood River Valley.

very timely, the class of HRHS 59 starts our two-day reunion at The Fruit Company in Pine Grove tomorrow….then to HRMS to see the auditorium (Percy's paintings) and “our” gym.

Have a great reunion Arlen. I hope some of you historic members can find some of these historic apples.
I love the Arkansas Blacks for applesauce.

Let us know how the reunion went.
