This was apparently the Walter home in Hood River. That is probably Alta Walter seated on the porch, possibly with her younger brother Andy.
The Alta Walter albums show a family ranch in Sherman County also, but Alta appears to have gone to East Barrett and Barrett schools in Hood River, and her friendship with other Hood Riverites like the Plogs and Pifers is good evidence she spent much of her time here.
Does anyone recognize this house? It might be in the Barrett District if it’s still around.

I believe it’s located near the intersection of Orchard and Nunamaker Rd.

My first thought when I opened up the photo was Barrett Drive. Not sure why.
Those upstairs porches were wonderful until you had a deep snow.

The History of Hood River County, 1852 – 1982, page 381 by J. A. Walter, Jr. says in 1908 my father sold his wheat ranch and bought a home and 5 acres located on Orchard Road. My wife and I still live in this community.
I went to grade school at a little one room school near our home through the 6th grade. This was the East Barrett School, and then to West Barrett School through the 7th and 8th grade.

I’ve lived out there for close to 25 years and I remember when it looked like that. It’s hard to see it on Google Street view because of the trees but it’s the same house. I’ve know the current owner for a number of years and they have taken care and fixed it up.
