The museum archives are full of trays and boxes of small tokens which tell the story of Hood River’s past. This rubber stamp says, “Grown by Ralph Davies/ Parkdale, Oregon/ Upper Hood River Valley”.
We’ve run across Mr. Davies a couple of time before. Here we see a postcard he sent to his wife in 1912, and here we see him working his homestead in 1931.
As we’re in the middle of the harvest season, this stamp helps tell the story of all the work put into growing the “Hood River” brand in fruit markets nationally and internationally. With fruit fairs, exhibits sent around the country, or just by prominently stamping every box of fruit with the “Hood River” brand, orchardists for the past century have built brand recognition.
