Historic Hood River

Morganne’s Monday offering is a small glass bottle of cedar oil from Kresse Drug Store.  Herman Kresse’s drug store at the corner of Second and Oak was a downtown landmark for many years.  It was an era when the pharmacist would prepare custom concoctions which customers would take home in small glass vials with typewritten labels.  Perhaps this cedar oil was used topically as an insect repellent?

Herman Kresse was mayor of Hood River during much of the Great Depression.  As was common in this era his drug store had a soda fountain, and you could also buy everything from phonograph record to fountain pens.
