This Alta Walter view of the Hood River White Salmon Interstate bridge is dated 1925, when the bridge had only been open a few months. Imagine trying to stand there today.

We’re right at the span which is now a lift span (installed in 1937), looking towards Washington. You can see Dock Grade Road in the background.

Alta visited this bridge, the Columbia River Highway, and the Mt. Hood Loop Highway all when they were brand new and took some great pictures I’ll share later.

    Wonderful photo. Wish I could look over the edge and see what the River bank looks like.

    Yes, definitely one of my favorites too. Hard to believe we're still driving through that steel cage 97 years later.
