Historic Hood River
High Water, 1942

Notes
This image was taken by Johanna Dethman in 1942, near the Oregon side of the Oregon-Washington interstate bridge. The home of F. E. Coulee is no longer “river front” but “river”.
I suspect this site is now underneath Interstate 84.

I wondered if it was the little house we see in photo #2175, but not sure the landscape is right.

I always have trouble with photos from this corner of town because so much dirt and rock has been moved, not to mention changes in the river level. The 1934 Bonneville Dam survey maps show a residence about 200 feet east of the bridge abutment at 80' elevation. I don't see any other candidates. This would be where Starbucks or McDonalds is today.

Nice composition, the details in the water are perfect

Johanna was my great great grandfather's sister.
