Notes
Herman Kresse owned the popular Kresse Drug store on Oak Street. He was also mayor of Hood River for much of the Great Depression. Here we see him with a very handsome automobile. Notes indicate the photo was taken in front of a friend’s house on Belmont Street.

Appears the pharmacy business was doing very well. That windshield in interesting. It appears that it can open and flip down? How fast could it go?

I wonder if this was during the depression or before and did he park the car in the garage connected to the house on State Street?
I see Herman was from Menominie, Wisconsin. I wonder if his family came to Hood River with the timber company.

Well it looks like a mid twenty’s Dodge except the hood seems a little long, a big car compared to the everyman’s Ford Model T
I think that house may still be there, I will do some more research later today on the car.

Is that the same house that had the buggy with the white horse, just a slightly different angle? Maybe the photographer lived around there?

nels, it is from the same collection as the horse and buggy photo, and it might well be the same location and/or photographer. There is mention of the "Flager home on Belmont" with another one of these negatives. Maybe someone knows where that is/was.

The Flager Home spelled Flagler is east of 22nd street on south side of Belmont. I’ll get the address and forward to you.

Herman was my great uncle. The family started in the Michigan Upper Peninsula and when the timber ran out, they moved to Hood River. Great Grandfather Louis worked in the sawmill and is buried with wife Louisa at Idlewilde Herman & his wife are in the crypt there. I have a large family portrait from Michigan, I will try to get it scanned for your collection. Great photos!!! Joe Kresse – La Grande

Looks like a 1920 Studebaker EH based on online photos especially the white diagonal stripe on the radiator badge and the hood holders. Engine was a straight flathead 6.

That looks like a solid ID, Joe. I’ve looked at the radiator badge in high resolution and it matches the Studebaker’s in the Mecum’s auction pages.
