I recognized him as soon as I opened the photo. Looks just like the guy with the fine looking car in #298. He must have had an eye for good quality. Probably why he lived in Hood River.

COCAINE IS ROBBER’S LOOT Hood ISiver Pharmacist Held Up by Slave to the Drug Habit. HOOD RIVER, Or, Jan. 10. (Spe cial.) L. W. Wright, a janitor of this city, craving cocaine, to which drug he is a slave, last night entered the drug store of C. A- Plath and, holding up the clerk. Herman Kresse, securea a large quantity of the drug. right entered the store and rushed at Kresse with one of his hands in his coat pocket, which was made to bulge as if he had a pistol concealed there. Altnough the man had no gun, the drug clerk obeyed his orders when the former commanded him’ to raise his hands and show him where all of toe cocaine and morphine in the bouse was. Securing a handful of the drug, the man rushed from the building. The pharmacy clerk called Policeman Rob ert Stone, who went to Wright’s little shack in the east end of the city and arrested him. a

My wife Lucy is the granddaughter of Herman Kresse. She has told me many stories about him and her grandmother. Their home overlooking the Columbia River is still majestic and well maintained by coincidentally one of my wife’s classmates from Hood River High School.
