Heino Elmer Hukari lived on the family farm on Eastside Road in Pine Grove. He never married and resided in that home with three sisters who also never married. I think there was another brother in residence with them.
Their home still remains next to what was the Kathrine Mohr home.

Hukari is an example of a Finn name that sounds Japanese.
I hope a member of the Hukari family adds some information to Charlott’s account. I think of the Hukari family connected with Oak Grove, but isn’t the Gorge White House owned by a Hukari?
Anyone know the make of the truck?

I wonder if it was a Hukari name that was crossed off of the sign on the old Butler Bank Building because someone thought that it was a Japanese name. I was told that someone blacked out the names of all the Japanese servicemen and included a Scandinavian name because they thought it was Japanese.

Yes The Gorge White House WAS owned by a Hukari. The Finnish pronounce it more of a somewhat running of the H and the U together.
Quite a few Hukari’s in the Pine Grove area of by gone days. Arne Hukari lived just north of Panorama Point, The Hukari’s on Eastside and Ross and Daphne (Nunamaker) Hukari on Hwy. 35.
My wonderful great-aunt Emma (Jampsa) Mack had sisters that were married into both the Hukari and Annala families.

Arne was my great Uncle. My Grandpa Arvo Leonard Hukari’s brother.
Adding to Charlottes old post, yes, Heino( another brother) lived on the Eastside Rd farm til death.
The youngest brother, John, bought property on Highline Dr and had a house for his 3 sisters, Lina, Alma ( maybe Elma) and Ida, and he married later in life to Ruth Chandler and they had their own house near the sisters.
