Historic Hood River
Heights Town Football Team, 1910
10-22-2012

Notes
There’s finally fall in the air, so it’s time for some football. Here’s the Heights team from 1910. According to our notes they “played three games with the Dalles Multnomah Athletic Club and were bea…” Unfortunately the note isn’t complete. Today’s puzzle is a creative writing assignment: complete the note.
We have a full team roster (left to right):
- Joe Carson (captain)
- Bill Dunn (manager)
- Key Koonts
- Allen Hart
- Guy Walker
- Oscar Stranahan
- Fred Curtis
- Barney Holman
- Wilbur Walker
- Clint Mooney
- Ray Blagg
- Frank Tate
- Harry Peterson
- Ray Samuels
I had a strong feeling of deja vu as I typed in those names. You’ll see a strong resemblance between this roster and the Heights baseball team of 1912.

………………..ten every time, but that didn’t dampen our spirits, love of the game and we shall go forth. All loosers are winners eventually. Go Hood River……….

Well, I don’t think I can better Charlott’s writing.
I can see why you had a sense of deja vu. Craggy faced manager Bill Dunn leaves an impression.

Wikipedia has a write up about player #1 Joe Carson:

Interesting Joe Carson bio, l.e. I’ve linked it directly from the notes.

Guy Walker and Wilbur Walker are both buried at Idlewilde.
Their sister, Ota Marie Walker, married Jon Coventon whose parents are featured in the Grasshopper Jim photo.
