Historic Hood River
Hauling Apples
9-22-2021

Notes
I believe this is Charles Davidson (father of Horatio) hauling apples circa 1900. The photo is from the WD Rogers studio. I can’t quite make out the location, but it does feel like downtown Hood River to me.
Seeing that heavy cart and that brake mechanism leaves me wondering how often these carts ran away on the hilly streets of this city.

The way the mud is turned up around the horses feet, it looks like they have been standing there for a while.
As I get older, and dealing with arthritis, I look at the complications of climbing up on the wagon, handling a team of horses, handling the brake, not an easy job for an older person. Especially if you are cold and wet.

the one horse is saying….hurry up and take the damn picture…I am ready to move

Is the Episcopal Church old enough to be the building in the background?
