Historic Hood River
Hatchery Bound?
7-2-2020

Notes
This is a companion to an earlier post. It was taken three minutes later, in September 1932. You can tell the barge is sitting off Bingen Point. This view helps make the argument they are harvesting eggs for the hatchery.

Looks like a kerosene lantern on the pole with the sign.

What is the purpose of what looks like a steel tower in the background? Did they have these for power lines back in 1932? Hard to tell what it is without a wider perspective, but I am sure others on here will know.

Yes, the steel tower was there for power from Condit Dam on the White Salmon. I think the same tower is still there.

@kmb….here is another photo of the tower. http://historichoodriver.com/index.php?showimage=942
I was oblivious of this tower until Arthur posted this photo. Now, when I drive
I-84, I wonder how I could have been so oblivious to this tower and the one up on the rock at Koberg Beach.
