Notes
You don’t have to go very far east of Hood River to find wheat country. This 1902 image shows some Hood River boys helping at harvest time.
The pencil notes on the reverse are very faint, but here’s what I can read:
Hugh Garrabrant Hood River
Frank Pxxxx? Hood River
Eastern Oreg 1902

In a later note someone indicates:
“x” — Hugh Garrabrant Sr. Eastern Oregon harvest fields 1902

Today here in the valley we have that many people: each with their own combine; drive into a 1000 acre field, cut it, put it in trucks, and move to the next one. All in the same day.

The boy was probably tying the top of the sacks of wheat closed with a needle.
I know someone who has their grandfather’s needle from when he tied sacks in Sherman County.
