This 1902 stereo card really has nothing to do with Hood River, but its title fits the day: “The Last Minute of the Old Year.” Happy New Year from the History Museum!
I’ll end the year with a question everyone can answer: Which of the images posted this year was your favorite? You have 262 to choose from. The “browse” option in the top line will help you recall what’s been posted.
While you’re working on that, I’ll share some site stats. We had roughly 250,000 image views this year, half of them from the local (Gorge) area. Every day we’re engaging locals while broadening the reach of the History Museum to a worldwide audience. Even as I type this we have visitors from Hood River, Colorado, and Egypt scanning the site.
Let me know what you’d like to see in the new year. Our selection pool has grown to more than 11,000 scans thanks to Matt’s careful work with the collection. I’m not very good at predicting which images will attract the most interest.
For those of you in the Hood River area, the History Museum will be reopening next Sunday after extensive renovation. I’ll post more details later this week, but there will be a ribbon cutting the afternoon of January 6, and then the museum will be open for you to see all the photos and artifacts that have been hidden away for almost a year.

I don’t know whether I could have lived in this room. it is awfully busy with all it’s rug, wall paper, throw on the couch. However, it does give a wonderful image of things of that era.
There are so many photos this past year which were WONDERFUL, too hard to really say one is better than another one. Won’t even try.

Every week day we look for the Hood River Museum picture. Thank you for taking on this project. I couldn’t pick a favorite but like the idea.

I find that clicking on the 2012 month in the left hand browse column makes it easier to review the photos. Twenty two photos at a time is not so overwhelming and it gives you a chance to enjoy them a little more.

Thank you Arthur, your thematic grouping seems perfect, so many great old historical photos, just keep that up. No one stands out as my favorite, because they are all so grand!!! Happy New Year………

I’m split between #273 (Malcolm Button playing trombone in the snow) and #210 (3 men on a motorcycle with explosives).

Not shy here Arthur but a difficult task you gave us daily viewers……my selection however is "County Courthouse, 1954, 09-26-2012, as it brings back memories of how important that project was to my aging grandfather John H. Sheldrake, County Judge. As I noted before, getting this building built was his final wish and about two years later he died. This was pretty impressive to this young teenager and has stuck with me. Our sons make it a point to go by the plaque and show our grand children his name. And I remember the history museum that along with the County School Office, where my Dad worked, were also housed in the building.

I went back and looked at all of the year’s images, and I had 12 favorites. Of course, I was somewhat bias about the picture of Kramer’s Texaco and the Downing Bldg. picture of Dec. 14th–that was a picture of the front door and bedroom window of my home from 1945-1950.
My unbiased favorite was "Threading the Needles" from Oct. 15th.
But most of my other picks were from the 1940’s and 1950’s because they jogged so many sweet memories.
I also really enjoyed the many comments that added interest and knowledge for me.

I have enjoyed these photos every single day throughout 2012 — these glimpses of a Hood River, the Hood River Valley and the Columbia Gorge in past times has been so enjoyable. I learned so much from the comments! Thank you for all the effort and hard work. I will look forward to visiting the History Museum when the snow and ice loosens it’s grip on Central Oregon!

I look forward to every post & wish we could have weekend photos as well, no one pick but as a former HRFD Member I love all of those pics. Also growing up in the fifties and sixties I like those as well, guess thats a plug for some sixties photos !

Like Jim, I think weekends are kind of dull without HRH photos.
My favorites are going to seem odd, but….
Jan. 13th: Ella May Davidson walking out across the river sand.
Jan. 20th: Harry DeWitt and Marguerite with the ice cream cone.
and Nov. 01 Fishing at Celilo. But I feel badly for leaving out all of the rest. I have loved all of them.
The one a few days ago of 1905 HR wasn’t too bad either.
