Notes

We have a wonderful Halloween treat today. A descendent of Sam and Elda Bartmess shares this image. It bears a caption in the handwriting of Sam and Elda’s eldest son, saying “Elda C. and Samuel E. Bartmess Halloween about 1894.” It may have been taken in the apartment above the Bartmess store on Oak between Third and Fourth Streets.

    I like the cattails!
If you click the Barmess tag you will get lots of information about the family.

If indeed this is the Barthmus building on Oak Street, it would’ve been brand new. As I understand it, The western half of the building was constructed in 1893, The eastern portion in 1903.
