Historic Hood River
Grants Pass
3-19-2020

Notes
Day 4 of our road trip with Olga Plog and we’re already in Southern Oregon. This dam was also brand new when Olga snapped this view. It turns out this dam has an interesting history which you can read about on Wikipedia.

I am surprised at their rapid progress through the state. Curious to see what direction they go next. I have never been to this area. Another project for my bucket list.

This dam is now breached and the lake up to the town of Rogue River is no more. I lived in Grants Pass a few miles downriver and spent time on this lake. Enough remains of the dam for before and after photos, none of this big money to do away with all trace as at Hood River dam and now at Condit dam. The picture is taken from the shoulder of highway 99 and can still be viewed from this spot. I-5 is now on the far side where the stagecoach road shows in this photo..

I like her writing on the pictures, seems for years the schools have only taught printing.

So I have been to this area when I travel I-5!! Thanks Kenn.

I usually crop out photo borders, but I thought Olga's notes add to the story.

This is/was an irrigation dam, the ditch showing here flows beyond Grants Pass on the south side while another passes GP on the north side. Both of these still exist.

This irrigation dam was the first up from the mouth. I have since heard the next upriver, the Gold Ray power dam near Tolo, may go also.
