Historic Hood River
Gordon Boyington’s Truck
11-29-2022

Notes
Alta Walter’s album is full of images of adventures like this one, captioned “Our first trip to Mt. Hood in Gordon Boyington’s truck.” It’s a little blurry. Maybe the photographer was still shaking from driving up rutted dirt roads in a heavy truck with hard rubber tires.
We previously saw a photo of Gordon Boyington many years further into his life. I think this trip was not long after he returned from the war. I date it “circa 1920”.

Oh that must have been a rough dusty trip, but a fun one.
Do you think they went to Cloud Cap?
Gordon Boyington was born in Canada and in the 1920 census his status is alien. But he was with the U.S. Army during the war.
In 1920 he is living in Odell and works as a civil engineer.
Feb. 1921 he has registered this vehicle: 612 W 4th, Hood River Hood River, Dodge-l3808-17-tr
1940 and 1950 he is a poultry farmer.
