An Historic Hood River reader shared some nice RPPC’s (real photo postcards) with us.
This photo post card was mailed to Martha Struck in September 1909. As the card indicates, the people in the photo are (L to R) Ferdinand Struck, Maude Merrill, Millard Merrill and Martha Struck. Maude and Millard Merrill were sister and brother. Along with Ferdinand Struck, they graduated from high school together in Hood River, OR in 1907, the first graduating class of 9 students from that 4-year high school.
We have an image of an “F. T. Struck” in our collection. He was a bit older than the “Ferdinand Struck” in this view, but the face is the same. At the time of our portrait he was “Director of Vocational Education” for the state of Pennsylvania.
The postcard was mailed “care of W. S. Crapper” so perhaps Martha was living in the Oak Grove area at this time?

Not to take away from the folks at the “focus” of the picture, but interested in the construction started behind them. Almost pole building style.

Martha Struck became Martha Brunquist and lived in Parkdale. Some of the Struck family also lived in Parkdale on Culbertson Dr.
Martha wrote the “Parkdale news” for the HR News for quite a few years til my mom took it over. It was basically Upper Valley gossip!
